East Central Students to attend Boys and Girls State this Summer

Girls - SandstoneArea American Legion Posts and the American Legion Auxiliary Units have announced the junior students selected to represent the area at this year’s American Legion Boys State and Girls State programs.

Selected to represent East Central at Boys State are Vander Snell, Aiden Frederickson, Robby White, Jack Wilkening, and Devon Wiest. Jack, Devon, and Robby will be sponsored by American Legion Post 563 of Bruno, while Vander and Aiden will be sponsored by American Legion Post 151 of Sandstone/Finlayson.

Girls - BrunoRepresenting East Central at Girls State are Aquene Klapel, Natalie Lohse, and Sophia Watrin, with Lorraine Brown named as an alternate. Sophia will be sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 563 of Bruno, Natalie by Auxiliary Unit 151 of Sandstone, and Aquene will be co-sponsored by both units.

Participants must be high school juniors and are selected through collaboration between local American Legion posts, high school staff, and community leaders. Minnesota American Legion Boys State and Girls State is a week-long experience of learning about Minnesota government at the local, county, and state levels. It is a week of intensive study and involvement. Highlights of the week include political speakers, mock trials, campaigning, and elections.

Boys - SandstoneBoth programs will take place in June. Boys State will be held at St. John’s University in Collegeville, and Girls State will be held at Bethel University in Arden Hills.
