Title I Program

Title I is a federally subsidized program that provides extra help to the students who need it the most.

Our Goal

The goal of Title I is to support a high-quality education for every child. The Title I program provides extra help to students who need assistance in order to meet the standards the state has set for all children.

What should you know about Title I?

It can help:

  • Children perform better in school and feel a sense of achievement.
  • Parents understand the way their child learns.
  • The team approach by both parents and teachers so that the child can achieve success.

How does Title I work?

The federal government provides funding to the states for Title I.The states provide the funding to school districts based on the number of families in a low -income bracket. East Central identifies students most in need of educational help (students do not have to be from low-income families to receive help). The schools set goals for improvement and measure student progress.Programs that are developed are designed to add to the regular education classroom. Title I does not take the place of regular education programs. It helps supplement them.

Title I programs generally offer:

  • Additional Title I teachers in classes in the areas of reading and math
  • Additional training for teachers
  • Extra time for instruction
  • A variety of teaching and mentoring methods

Student progress is measured weekly by teachers to ensure all students are reaching the goals set for improvement.

What can parents do?

You influence your child's education more than any teacher or school, so your involvement can help booster your child's achievement.

Share your love of learning with your child. Let your child see you:

  • Read newspapers, magazines, or books
  • Write letters, grocery lists, or a diary
  • Use math to prepare budgets, compare prices, etc.
  • Play games such as crossword puzzles, dot-to-dot, and word & travel games
  • Visit libraries together and help your children pick out books to read just for fun
  • Encourage them to read at home

You can also show interest in your child's school day.

  • Ask specific questions about what the class is studying
  • Ask to see school work and talk about it in a positive way
  • Praise effort and improvement - no matter how small it may seem to you
  • Encourage good study habits such as showing respect for homework, agreeing on a time for homework, allowing breaks and making yourself available when help is needed
