Classes are LIMITED IN SIZE - so act fast if you know a session works for your

family. All of our WSI (Water Safety Instructors) are Red Cross certified. Please make sure you get the correct session, swim level and time when enrolling. Class level descriptions are listed below. These are helpful if you are unsure of which class to select.

Learn To Swim (LTS)

All WSI are Red Cross certified

LTS Level 1 (age 6 and up): Introduction to Water Skills Learn Basic water safety rules; how to use a life jacket; submerge mouth, nose and eyes; open eyes underwater and pick up a submerged object; swim on front and back using arm and leg actions; exhale underwater; float on front and back .

LTS Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Submerge entire head, glide on the front and back, tread water using arm and leg motions; bob in water, do a jellyfish float; swim using combined stroke on front and back

LTS Level 3: Stroke Development

Perform a reaching assist, submerge and retrieve an object, glide on front and back, back and front crawl, kneeling or standing dive; breathe side to side in horizontal position; survival float, back float; butterfly kick and body motion

LTS Level 4—Stroke Improvement

Develops confidence in the skills learned and improves other aquatic skills. • Headfirst entries from the side in compact and stride positions • Swim under water • Feet first surface dive • Survival swimming • Front crawl and backstroke open turns • Tread water using 2 different kicks • Front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly • Flutter and dolphin kicks on back

LTS Level 5—Stroke Refinement

Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes. • Shallow-angle dive from the side then glide and begin a front stroke • Tuck and pike surface dives, submerge completely • Front flip turn and backstroke flip turn while swimming • Front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly • Sculling

Learn to Swim (LTS) Level 6-Swimming and Skill Proficiency

Refine strokes so students swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances; includes "menu options" - Personal Water Safety, Fitness Swimmer and Fundamentals of Diving

PRESCHOOL

Parents/Tots, (6 months – 2 years) – Parents must accompany child in the water. Bring your child and let them get acquainted with the water. Learn the proper hold for your child in the water and play lots of fun water games. This class will include advanced techniques for the preschooler. The Pool will hopefully be 83 degrees but, please bring a t-shirt along with for your (preschool) child to wear if the pool feels cooler

Level 1 – Water Exploration (2- 3 years) -Child will learn to enter/ exit water on own, blow bubbles, fully submerge face, and experience supported floating and kicking.

Level 2 – Learn Primary Skills (3 – 4 years) -Learn to float without support and recover to a vertical position. Work on front and back glides.

Level 3 – Learn Primary Skills (4 – 5 years) -Learn basic swimming propulsive skills. Learn to change direction, combine arm & leg actions on both front & back

The WSI Instructor may determine your child is better suited at another level; they will make that assessment on the first day of class.

Summer Theatrical Improv

SPACE IS LIMITED - 8 needed to hold the class!

Improv is a spontaneous theatre experience in which the plot, characters and dialogue of a scene are created in the moment. Participants may find themselves speaking only in gibberish, using teammates as props, and creating new worlds from three simple words.  Wear comfortable clothes and be ready for fun!

AGE LEVELS: 12 years - 17 years of age

DATES/TIME: Monday - Thursday, June 17-20 from 9:30-10:45 in the auditorium.

INSTRUCTOR: Taught by Laurie Schmidt, a former Theatre Artist-in Residence in Minnesota and Nebraska,  working as a teacher, director, performer, puppeteer and storyteller for theatre companies before joining the East Central faculty. COST:  $20.00 Register at........

Stage Games for Kids

SPACE IS LIMITED - 8 needed to hold the class!

Where can you find astronauts, dinosaurs, princesses, toymakers and submarine commanders all happily working side-by-side? In our Stage Games for Kids class of course! Participants will play with movement, pantomime, improv and story dramatizations to let their imaginations take the stage.

AGE LEVELS: 8 years - 11 years of age

DATES/TIME: Monday - Thursday, June 17-20 from 11:00-12:00 in the auditorium.

AGE LEVELS: Current preschooler or current kindergartner (2018-19 school year)

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, June 7

DATES/TIME:Mondays: June 10, 17, 24 and Wednesdays: June 12, 19, 26 from 5:30-6:30 at the junior high fields at East Central School.

COST:

First student: 25.00

Second student: 20.00

Coaches: we need one more volunteer coach, please contact community ed if you can assist.

Other Information: Students need to wear clothes they can move in and tennis shoes – no sandals! Payment is due at time of registration.

AGE LEVELS: Grades 1-2 (2018-19 School year)

DATES: Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 at the softball fields at East Central School. June: 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26

FOR BOYS AND GIRLS

DO YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR STRENGTH, SPEED and AGILITY?

What you do in the off-season determines your participation during the regular season.

Learn from Mack Nelson- Exercise Physiology Major- how to apply sports drills and exercise to improve physical and mental athleticism. This exercise and strength program will focus on speed, strength, agility, flexibility and mental preparation that athletes need to succeed. Choose from two sessions OR DO BOTH!!

Age Level: Entering 7-12 grades (2019-20 school year)

Time: 5:30-6:30

Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Sessions: Session 1, June 4 – June 27; Session 2, July 9 – August 1

Amazing Athletes Track and Field

This discovery-based program is designed to get your preschooler moving! A wonderful opportunity for your young child to engage in a fitness program that teaches the basic fundamentals and mechanics of wellness. Build self-confidence, practice teamwork and improve fine and gross motor skills with us! In this non-competitive environment, children increase their cardiovascular fitness, muscle tone, hand-eye coordination, and reaction time. Parents are not required to stay, but are welcome to get involved in the health of your child.

Age Level: Entering grades 1-3 (2019-20 school year)

Dates: Monday, August 5 – Thursday, August 8

Time: 6:00-7:00

Cost: $15.00 or $10.00 if you have signed up for summer rec ball as well.

Location: Running track on the football field

YOUTH TACKLE FOOTBALL THIS IS NOT A COMMUNITY ED CLASS - THIS IS RUN THROUGH THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM WITH ASSISTANCE BY CE. You may register online through community education.

TACKLE FOOTBALL GRADES 5-6

AGE LEVELS: Grades 4-5 (2018-19 School year)

SAFE SITTER –BABY SITTER TRAINING Image result for babysitting clipart

Ages 11-13 years old

First Light Health will offer this program. Safe Sitter is an instructional course designed for ages 11 years and older who are seeking proper training to become babysitters. During the all-day course, students listen, practice and role play to learn about a variety of topics including:  Safety precautions, CPR and care for a choking infant or child, Recognizing emergencies and how to call for help.

The course also covers the basics of child care, including how to feed and diaper an infant and behaviors to expect when dealing with each age group. Students must bring a bag lunch. Please fill out these forms to participate. Class size is limited to 20.

DATE:  Tuesday, June 18 from 9:00-2:30 in room 203.

COST: $30.00

YOUTH CHEER MINI CAMP

Students will learn new cheers and chants, jump technique and motions and learn beginning stunts. Students who want to do Youth Football OR Basketball Cheer should attend this mini camp! For beginners and students who have cheerleading history.

STUDENT MUST TAKE PART IN THE MINI CAMP IN ORDER TO CHEER THIS FALL OR BASKETBALL

Date/Time:  Monday, August 19 - Thursday, August 22 from 3:00-5:00 in the High School lunchroom at EC.

GRADES: Students entering grades K-6 for the 2019-20 school year.

Registration Deadline (for shirt): Thursday, August 8

COST: $30.00 for the camp and a T-shirt

$20.00 for the camp and no T-shirt

(T-shirt bought for camp will be used for Eaglets football and basketball cheer seasons, it will be the same one as last year)

2019 YOUTH FOOTBALL CHEER

Students will practice the new cheers and chants, jump technique and motions and continue to learn the  beginning stunts introduced at the mini camp. For beginners and students who have cheerleading history. Students CHEER AT GAMES.

PREREQUISITE: Students must have taken the mini camp offered in August in order to participate.

GRADES: Students entering grades K-6 in the 2019-20 school year - BOYS AND GIRLS!!

COST: 25.00 first student, 15.00 second student (uniform shirt is an additional $12.00 if needed) PRACTICE TIMES:  3:20-5:00 in the High School lunchroom. August 27 and 29 (before school starts), September 3, 5, 12, 17; October 1 and 10

GAMES September 9, 19, 26; Oct. 4 (Homecoming), 8, 15

Games: meet in the foyer at 3:20 and cheer until 5:00 – pickup by the bleachers.

Oct. 4th(Friday night): meet at the gate at 6:30 cheer until halftime. Parents will need to pay to enter the game.

PLEASE BRING A BAG LUNCH we will eat before the game.

Uniforms: Will be the cheer shirt from camp (and last year), black leggings and white tennis shoes.

WHAT: Driver’s Education and Behind the Wheel

WHERE: At East Central High School room 308

INSTRUCTOR: Dwaine Palmer (both class and behind the wheel)

DATES:

The state requires 30 hours of classroom work.

Monday- Friday, June 10-21 from 9:00 am - Noon

DATE FOR PARENT MEETING: Tuesday, June 18 in room 413 from 6:00-7:30

AGE REQUIREMENT: Students need to be 15 years of age by June 9, 2019 to take the class

COST: $315.00.

$100.00 is due at registration, balance paid in full by last date of class. Blue cards will not be issued until paid in full. REGISTRATION PACKET MUST BE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY AND TURNED IN WHEN REGISTERING. The packets are located on the community ed table in the foyer of the school.

 


2018-19 East Central Activities Fee

The Activities fee is required to play in all sports offered at the 7th - 12 grade level at East Central, this includes the following: Fall Sports: Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Cheer Winter Sports: Basketball, Cheer, Hockey, One Act Spring Sports: Track, Baseball, Softball, Trap Shooting, Golf

East Central has set the athletic fee for all sports except trap and hockey as follows: $50.00/athlete per sport. If the athlete participates in three activities, the third one is FREE. If the athlete participates in two sports, the third sport is free.

You may now pay online with a card through Community Education

ATHLETIC FEE IS DUE PRIOR TO THE FIRST PRACTICE OF THE SEASON
