October 18th Elementary Update

Dear East Central Elementary Families,

As we move to our hybrid schedule and per the Governor's guidelines there are some changes we need to put in place to make sure our students and staff stay healthy.

We need your help and support in talking with your children and helping them understand the importance of the new protocols in place.

In our classrooms we have spaced our desks 6’ feet apart. We will work to socially distance students in our classrooms, hallways, lunchroom and other common areas. We are minimizing students moving throughout the building and interacting with other grade levels.

Students need to wear their mask while in the school building and on our transportation. The mask needs to be worn over their nose and mouth. Please talk with your child about having a mask, keeping it on and wearing it correctly. We do have some students that wear a face shield. The CDC recognizes that there is not currently enough evidence to show that face shields are as protective as face coverings. If your child needs to wear a face shield instead of a mask you will need to provide a doctor’s note to the elementary office. We want to keep our kids in school so we need to make sure we are doing everything we can to contain the spread of germs.

If you are sending in any kind of snack or birthday treat, please make sure that the snack is individually packaged. Please do not send cupcakes or cookies that do not come in an individual container for each student.

Students K-6 will have a distant learning day on Wednesdays, therefore, there will be no in-person school . Teachers will be sending schoolwork and a checklist that will need to be completed. This completed work will also serve as their attendance. The teachers will talk with the students to make sure they have an understanding of what needs to be done and expectations on schoolwork. Students will not be taking home their technology for this one day. Please remind your child that this is not a day off - it is still a school day.

If your student is riding the school bus, please make sure they understand that they need to wear their mask and sit in their assigned seats. This will help with quarantining students if a positive covid case develops. It can make a difference from a few students being quarantined to a whole bus.

I appreciate your help and support in keeping our kids and school staff safe. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns. Please remember if your child is not feeling good, keep them home.

Thank you,

Kristen Chryst
