August 11th Activities Update

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

As you may have heard, the Minnesota State High School League has postponed the high school football and volleyball seasons until after the completion of the winter sports season due to COVID-19 concerns. This will include the junior high levels for East Central and our Great River Conference member schools. The formal dates of the season have not been determined at this time. We do know the football and volleyball season will be separate from the spring sports season.

The spring sports season will become a 4th sports season this year with a later start date and end date. As of now it appears spring sports will commence in the latter part of May and run through the month of June with the conclusion in early July. Again, these dates have not been officially announced yet. In addition, there has been no decision regarding section or state playoffs happening in any sport at this time.

The high school league is allowing some low risk fall sports to begin in August. The one low risk sport we offer on that list in the fall is cross country. Our cross country season will begin on Monday, August 17th with practices running from 3:30pm to 5:30pm Monday through Friday. Coach Groskreutz (320-245-6038) will be having his team meeting on Sunday, August 16th in the high school auditorium beginning at 5:00pm. Please remember that all CDC guidelines and mandates will be followed, which includes the wearing of a face mask when in the school building. So yes, make certain you have your mask.

The all sports meeting scheduled for Sunday, August 16th has been cancelled. For the individuals planning on participating in cross country this year, you’ll receive all school district sports paperwork at the cross country meeting Sunday evening. In addition, the high school league has extended sports physicals by one year. So if your physical expired last year, you are still ok. The students that need a sports physical this year are the incoming 7th graders or others that have never participated in 7-12 athletics.

For those of you wondering about cheerleading, this sports season will begin with the official winter sports season.

One last note, our community play offered in the fall has been cancelled this year due to the pandemic and health safety concerns.

Stay safe and take care!

Go Eagles!

Respectfully,

Mr. Todd Lindstrom
Activities Director
