March 27th Update

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncertain times in our society. As you know, on Wednesday March 25, Governor Walz issued an updated executive order calling for Minnesotans to Stay Home. The executive order asks school districts to continue offering education to students through our newly created Distance Learning Plans. East Central Schools plan can be found on the school district website and is linked here:

Please know, school administration has been participating in daily conference phone calls with Minnesota Commissioner of Education, Mary Kathryn Ricker. During the call on March 23rd we were notified that all schools in Minnesota are to implement their distance learning plans beginning March 30 through May 4th.

This is new for all of us. We encourage your feedback as we work to meet the needs of all stakeholders. During the implementation process it will take time to work through the roadblocks and establish a new routine. This plan is being implemented by certified, highly trained educators, who know the science behind learning theory. Yet, through distance learning, we are asking parents to take on much of this role. We don’t expect parents to have the same skills our educators do. We ask for your partnership and flexibility as we do this together. During this time the most important thing we can do is show our kids that they are cared for and work through this challenging time alongside them.

There will be a great deal of materials given to students. I want you to know that all we ask is that students do their best and parents do what you can to support your child. Teachers will be contacting students and families throughout this process. If students and/or parents experience moments of confusion or stress, my advice is to make a list of questions to have ready to ask the teacher when they contact you. Our teachers stand ready to answer questions and support you and your family. This is not a time to worry about your child falling behind. First and foremost, we ask that you care for your child’s mental and physical health.

A few reminders for you:

  • Meal delivery will start again on Monday, March 30. Breakfast and lunch will be delivered via the regular school bus routes each day.
  • Childcare will continue for families in the Tier I and Tier II categories of the Governor’s Executive Order. Please remember, our childcare program is only for those families. If you need childcare and your profession fits one of these categories please contact the East Central District Office at (320)245-6000 to register.
  • Distance Learning is currently in effect from March 30 – May 4.

The safety and health of our students and staff remains our top priority through this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I thank you for your ongoing partnership and support of our school district.

Go Eagles!
