June 3rd Update

Dear Parents,

The school year at East Central Schools is coming to an end in a manner that is not familiar. I want to personally thank all of our families for your patience and understanding as we’ve delivered distance learning to our students since March 18, 2020. School life has changed drastically during the COVID-19 pandemic. In alignment with our school calendar, meal delivery and childcare will end when school lets out for the summer on June 4th. We understand this could create hardship for some families. Please contact us if your family is in need of support facilitating food stability. Additionally, the guidance we have received from the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota State High School League is to limit non-essential events. Things continue to change week to week but at this time we have made the decision to keep East Central Schools indoor and outdoor facilities closed until July 6, 2020. This includes youth sports and all community education events.

As we look ahead to the start of the 2020-21 school year our planning is focused on a return to the normal school routine and we look forward to welcoming our students back to school. With that said, our ability to reopen as normal could be altered by the Minnesota Department of Education and/or the Minnesota Department of Health. We are currently working on our contingency plans should we not be allowed to reopen as normal come September. Please look for more communication from me and the building principals over the summer. The school district website is also a good source for up-to-date information.

Over the summer we will complete some facility projects including removing and replacing all of the asphalt parking and driveways at school. If you need to come to the school this summer please know it will be a construction site and parking could be limited. Additionally, we have begun remodeling our preschool-kindergarten area within the building. This is an exciting project that will allow our youngest students more space and better use of the space. As part of this project, we will be adding some smaller playground equipment and additional green space for our students to play during recess. We look forward to how these facility changes will improve the education we can deliver to our students. Finally, we are upgrading the school district phone system. This could mean minor changes to phone numbers for our staff. We will send out updated phone numbers when this is complete. Again the school district website is the best place to find this information.

I wish you all the best as another summer begins. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to educate your children.

Stay well,

ANDREW M. ALMOS
