April 30th Update

Dear Families,

The governor's updated executive order calls for schools to be in distance learning for the remainder of the school year. He also set May 1st and May 4th to be planning days for school staff to continue refining our distance learning plans. With that said, tomorrow May 1st was a normally scheduled day off in our school calendar so school is considered closed. This means Friday, May 1st, there will be no meal delivery and the district child care program will be closed. These services will resume on May 4th. Below are a few more updates for our families....

Grading - We've had some questions about grading and how this will be handled in our distance learning format. School staff are working to align our grading system with the impacts of distance learning. Student grades will be based on Assignment Proficiency, Work Completion, and Attendance (connections with their teacher). Look for more information coming from the principal's offices and teaching staff soon. The best advice I can give families regarding grades during distance learning is to try your best. As I mentioned in an earlier communication to families, we don't expect parents to take the place of the teacher. Parents should work to be sure their children are regularly communicating with teachers and are working to make progress on school work. This is a new educational delivery system for all of us, as long as we continue to work together we can move the learning of our students forward in new ways.

Graduation - The high school staff is working with the class of 2020 to finalize plans for graduation. If you have a senior living in your household please be sure they respond to the surveys that went out and/or call Principal Youngberg to provide their input. Our goal with graduation is to hold a ceremony to celebrate with the class of 2020. However, this year's commencement ceremony will look different than past years. The class of 2020 is making history! The plans for graduation will be posted on the district website very soon.

Survey (reminder) - Below is a link to a brief survey that we are asking each family to complete now that our distance learning plan has been in full effect for some time. The purpose of the survey is to help us understand the effectiveness of and discover the barriers that still may exist to our distance learning program relative to Internet access and devices your students are using. Participation is optional, but your response will help us provide better instructional opportunities for your students. We expect this survey to take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
If you have already taken the survey, thank you. This is just a third request to those who have not completed the survey yet. If you have any questions regarding this survey, please contact Bill Groskreutz, Director of Technology via email at [email protected] or by phone at 320.245.6038.

Have a good long weekend everyone.
