Winter Actvities Update Jan 8th

East Central Parents/Guardians, Students, and Community:

With the winter sports season commencing this past Monday, January 4th for our high school basketball teams, hockey teams, and junior high boys; which is wonderful! The question of spectators attending has been at the forefront. We, the activities administrators for our Great River Conference met to discuss what our policy/practice will be pertaining to fans. Keeping in mind adhering to requirements and recommendations set forth by our Governor, State Health Dept., MDE, and the CDC we drafted the following.

Only the home team spectators will be in attendance. Each active student-athlete on the team roster will receive the opportunity for 2 tickets. At East Central, these tickets will be for Parents only. Similar to the fall season, if a student-athlete is coming from a split family they will have the opportunity to receive an additional ticket. The student will need to provide the names of parent(s) attending so they can be added to the spectator list for admittance and contact tracing if need be. We will not be charging a fee for tickets at this time however, that is subject to change.

Due to the fact the East Central School District is currently in the distance learning model we will not be allowing any spectators until our full student body has returned to in-person learning per the guidelines set forth by the State to individual school districts. East Central won’t have all students back until February 15th per the incremental student return plan. If all current plans stay in place our parents will be able to attend games beginning with our scheduled home games on and after February 16th, 2021. There may be a non-conference school on our schedules that will allow 2 tickets for visiting parents. Our coaches will be made aware of that to pass on to players in the event it happens.

Remember, Hockey is a co-op with Moose Lake. Moose Lake is the host school and their policies/practices will govern spectator attendance.

Our home varsity and junior varsity level contests will be live-streamed by WCMP out of Pine City. The majority of our conference away games will be as well. The live stream info will be posted on our school website and shared with players by their coaches.

Please always remember all policies and practices are implemented with the safety and health of our students, coaches, and staff as the top priority. By doing what we can to mitigate the spread of the COVID virus it will hopefully allow us to play the entire season without a pause. The bottom line is our student-athletes get to play their winter sport!
